Forestry Development
Earlier this term, the Senior Young Men’s class visited the Yapilika tree plantation and the site for the next stage of forestry development on Melville Island.
The students had the chance to meet staff from across the operation, gaining insight into the many roles involved in forestry beyond simply growing and harvesting trees. They learned how the industry ties together planning, science, land management, logistics, and export.
The visit concluded at Port Melville, where the class saw firsthand the loading point for forestry products, giving them a clearer understanding of the scale of the operation and how it connects the Tiwi forestry industry to the wider world.
