Junior Rangers - Vertebrate Training NTG Flora & Fauna


Senior students will join NT Government Flora & Fauna scientists and Tiwi Rangers to take part in vertebrate biodiversity surveys, learning how to identify and monitor mammals, birds, reptiles, and frogs on Country.

This training includes hands-on activities using professional tools and methods to record wildlife and understand animal behaviour in Tiwi ecosystems.

Activities Include:

  • Setting and checking pitfall traps

  • Using camera traps and harp nets

  • Bird ID and frog call surveys

  • Spotlighting for nocturnal animals

  • Learning cultural stories connected to local animals

Why It Matters:
This training builds real Ranger skills and deepens understanding of how Tiwi people and science work together to care for Country and protect wildlife.
