Cultural Art Project
Our Junior Young Women class has been working on a special cultural art project - creating ceramic coolamons with designs inspired by their totems and skin groups.
A coolamon is a traditional Aboriginal carrying vessel used mainly by women across many Nations in Australia. Traditionally made from wood, coolamons were used to carry bush foods, water, and even babies.
Taking inspiration from these traditions, the girls have shaped and painted their own ceramic versions, blending broader Aboriginal influences with their own Tiwi identity, stories, and symbolism.
